Default Dragon Guard Costume - Armor done right!

Thanks a lot for finally a well-done armor in the shop!

For years I did not want to play a paragon, because I was unable to get ANY decent armor for my female paragon! Vabbi armor for male - totally awesome! Vabbi armor for female, err what armor?

Armor is supposed to cover the body, especially the gut and upper chest. Armor is also not supposed to have boob-cups, for two reasons. One is that it'll direct anything that hits them towards the heart and second, you don't need them as armor is heavy enough to flatten those breasts a bit.

There was not a single female paragon armor that would meet that criterium. Well, except Kormir and Hayda's armor, but we can't equip those

Now with the last costumes, Anet finally did the job right! Balthazar's armor already came a long way, and now there's a more traditional set of armor available as well.

I'm very happy, and this is the first costume I'll be buying!

Make sure we females get some this kind of armor in GW2 too! For the love of god, no naked bellies, no tit-cups and no exposed upper chest! Platemail should be heavy, look bad-ass and cover everything! Chainmail bikini equivalents should be optional, not mandatory.

Thanks again

Eh?

Costumes are not armor for a start, and it matters not at all what is covered or not, you could have nothing but a g-string provided it endowed one with the max armor rating for a toon

So, you like the cosmetics... great, indeed the costumes look quite spiffy, but again, they are not armor

Glad you're enjoying it. I felt the same way when my male Paragon got his hands on the White Mantle Disguise. You might also like the Purity set, since it's practically just a slimmed down version of the male suit.

Makes you wonder what went wrong when they designed the outfits when the costume looks like armor and the real thing doesnt.

This is what a female paragon or warrior should look like:

But then devs go "oh noes, we spent 2 months getting our boobphysics to work, and they're not compatible with that!"

I personally think the Dragon Guard costume looks like someone rolled your character in a rug and stood them up. It's pretty clear they put very little to no effort into making sure it looked right on all classes. Wear these costumes without a helmet on most male caster classes and it looks like their body is way too big for their heads.

I'm getting tired of "costumes" that are just NPC skins given to players without adjusting them for body size of those players.

The costumes are not real armor, so they are not tailored to the dimensions of each profession. To ensure the costume covers the whole character, they just use the biggest model (warrior). It makes perfect sense from a coding and design standpoint.

So these don't scale to male body type, either? :/ That's unfortunate. I'd been hoping they'd finally gotten around to making costumes that actually fit the guys, especially since it costs real money. I'll be passing on these, too, then.

I wasn't aware of this issue, but this sounds serious yes. I understand that they don't want to redo the armors multiple times to fit a class bodytype but looking at it would make many of the costumes useless on caster characters yes.

eh i agree with this to a point. in reality i dont think people(read:guys) would be as happy with making female characters if they only had armor that covered everything.

but even i do get bored with having my female ele being nothing but the prostitute of the GW world with REALLY skimpy armors and things such as that. So in that regard im happy there are at least some options with costumes to have some interesting full body armor.

The fact tho that you have to pay for it.. really bumps me. I just wish in at least 1 major update we could get costumes that looked nice without having to shell out money for them. These are costumes i would REALLY love to have.. but some people like me just cant spare the money for them. I jsut hope next time around they at least give us a chance to work for costumes not just clicking the "buy" button

Am I the only one who doesn't like the Dragon Guard costume? Although it looks better than the white costume they sold us this time, I'm not too fond of the dragon claws and feet. Oh well...

You know there's already armors that look like that, right?

Paragons have a completely different design aesthetic than warriors. Which is fine, especially when they're a profession that doesn't ever fight close up. And by the way, I've got boobs. Squishing them down isn't comfortable. At all.

I kind of always get annoyed when people complain about stuff like that in a fantasy game. Yes, I can understand wanting realistic armors - my taste for warrior armor leans more towards the realistic types (Templar and Ancient are my favorites), but there's also some advantage to wearing less armor that a lot of people seem to forget about - speed and agility. Doesn't matter if you're covered less if they can't hit you, after all

Anyway, I like the new costumes, but the mask for the Purity one bugs me for some reason. I'm wearing the Dragonguard mask with the Purity outfit dyed red (they match together quite well). Looks awesome, and matches my Oppressor's scythe quite nicely, too.

Leave my boobs alone - I like them just the way they are.

I thought I had clicked on the Dragon Age 2 forums for a moment.

The repeated use of "no" leaves little room for "optional". I can understand where confusion would arise.

Not a single one of those fit Shakkara's description of what armor should look like.

The thing that bugs me is that people keep arguing that just because it's a fantasy game, a chainmail bikini can defend just as well as full body armor. If that were the case, then whatever in that world makes that bikini just as good as full body armor should make a plain robe just as good, too. But they're not.

They may not be real armour but they cost real money and when I pay real money I expect someone to do a decent job and create something which actually fits my character. In no way does it make sense, you create a costume for all professions, make sure it fits all professions.

i dont know all the facts but i dont think women fought in many wars so fantasy armors dont have much to be based on. and if you dont like the armor of the sex/profession then either dont make it or use a costume xD and i for one (xD is a girl) rather have my ele look half naked (elite sunspear) then a dominatrix (obbi armor). xD

Glad you like the costumes..

But really, it's not supposed to be realistic & the more skin, the better

Being female, I've often been amused by the armors available to female characters in fantasy games. It all started with book cover art for science fantasy novels and spread out from there.

Does it bother me? Not really. Do I expect something different in the future? No. After all, the publishers of fantasy books and games both have the same market in mind, the average male. Until women game players outnumber or even equal the men, nothing will change very much.
